Free Adult/Children CPR Training

The Family & Friends CPR program teaches you how to perform CPR on adults and children, and how to help an adult or child. This course is designed for family members, friends and members of the general community who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card.

Adults and teens ages 16 years and older are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Chocolate: Is it the New Health Food?

This workshop explores many aspects of the fruit of the Theobroma cacao tree including its place in history, different types of chocolate, how it’s processed and how it has been studied. Research on specific components in cocoa, including flavonoids, have led to a strong body of evidence that cocoa and dark chocolate may provide health benefits that include reductions in blood pressure and total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, prevention of DM2 and stroke reduction.

Get Pumped Up About Heart Health (Hybrid)

The HEAL team is a student run initiative that focuses on empowering the community members to take control of their blood pressure through educational workshops that focus on lifestyle factors that contribute to increased blood pressures. Also, the program aims to provide education on how to properly take your blood pressure and provide information on local resources within the community where you can take your blood pressure.

 

"Addressing Hypertension through Nutrition"

This program will focus on nutrition education for hypertension management.

 

“I don’t understand!” Aging, Hearing Loss, and Dementia

This program will discuss the effects of aging on hearing, the challenges of diagnosing dementia when hearing loss is present, and the links between dementia and hearing loss. Three theories on the links between hearing loss and cognitive impairment will be explored. Finally, practical suggestions on treatment of hearing loss for patients with cognitive impairment will be offered.
