Body Image with Dr. Charlotte Markey
In this talk for young people and their parents, Dr. Charlotte Markey will draw on research and ideas from her Body Image Book series to explain how body image develops, why it often becomes more complicated during the teen years, and how family, peers, media, and social media can shape the way young people feel about themselves. She will offer practical strategies for responding to appearance pressures and changing bodies; developing a more flexible relationship with food and movement; and learning to appreciate the body for what it can do rather than focusing only on how it looks. Parents will also learn how everyday comments and conversations can either strengthen or undermine body confidence, and both youth and adults will leave with tools for building self-compassion, resilience, and a healthier, more accepting relationship with their bodies.
We will be raffling off 3 of Dr. Markey's Books to those in attendance.
