Middlesex County Food Pantries

This directory lists food pantries in Middlesex County. Many food pantry systems become strained during national crises. Please call ahead.

If you or someone you know has extra supplies or food they would be willing to donate, many pantries are accepting them. Please call ahead to identify what the pantry has run out of/is still in need of.

Carteret

East Brunswick

Food pantry and thrift shop. Must be a resident of Middlesex County for food assistance. Government-issued photo ID (passport, driver’s permit or license, city or state non-driver ID) must be presented. Referral through church or social service organization is recommended.

 

St. Mary & St. Stephen Coptic Church

Edison

A three-day supply of food is available once a month for Edison Township residents, proof of residence is required (driver’s license, utility bill, etc.).

 

Edison Housing Authority

Edison Housing Authority has taken precautionary measures and have suspended all programming, including the food program. However, they are working with the township to come up with a distribution day of food and products in April.

Highland Park

Anyone in need of food or who is food insecure can make an appointment with Nicole Huff at the Community Center to register for the Highland Park Community Food Pantry. At the distribution times listed above, food pantry clients can choose from nonperishable and fresh foods (when available). Low-income households are also eligible for additional food available under the Federal TEFAP program such as meats, cheese and eggs. The registration form lists the requirements for receiving these additional food items.

Metuchen

First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen

First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen will be open Wednesday and Thursday each week from 9:00am - 11:00am for DRIVE UP FOOD PANTRY. That means that clients do not need an appointment. Just drive up and they will provide clients with two prepacked bags per family delivered out to their cars. No signing in. They will allow clients to come once a week going forward until the pandemic is over.

Emergency food distribution is available to residents of Edison and Metuchen; proof of residency must be provided. All requests must come in by phone by 3:00pm on Tuesday so that clients can make an appointment to “shop” Wednesday or Thursday OR volunteers can package the food for pick up on Thursday. Emergency requests are also arranged. Limited to once a month. Suggested donations include: Parmalat milk, peanut butter and jelly, maple syrup and pancake mix (mix with water), dry cereal, canned meats, juices, and vegetables, soups, spaghetti sauce and pasta. They do not accept perishable items.

To get food, must be a Middlesex County resident, 18 or older, must show proof of name, address and income. Requests are limited to once a month or as needed for emergency circumstances. Nonperishable kosher food is provided to those in need. Monetary donations and kosher non-perishable food donations are accepted from the community and organizations. All residents in need are served regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, etc.

 

Monroe
